- What must a GST tax invoice include?
- Your name, address and GSTIN; a unique invoice number of up to 16 characters and the date; the buyer's name, address and GSTIN if registered; the place of supply; each item's description, HSN or SAC code, quantity, value and GST rate; the tax amounts; the total; and your signature.
- When do I charge CGST and SGST instead of IGST?
- Charge CGST and SGST, each at half the GST rate, when the place of supply is in the same state as you. For supplies to another state, charge IGST at the full rate.
- How many digits of HSN code do I need?
- Businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore must show at least 4 digits of HSN on invoices to registered buyers; above ₹5 crore, 6 digits on all tax invoices. Services use SAC codes.
- Can an unregistered business issue a GST invoice?
- No. Only GST-registered businesses can issue a tax invoice and charge GST. Unregistered businesses issue a simple bill without GST.
