Frequently asked questions

What documents do I need to file my ITR?
PAN linked with Aadhaar, a pre-validated bank account, your AIS and Form 26AS, Form 16 if you're salaried, interest certificates, capital gains statements if you sold investments, and proofs for any old-regime deductions. Business owners also need their receipts or accounts.
Do I need to e-verify my income tax return?
Yes. A return must be verified within 30 days of filing, usually with an Aadhaar OTP or net banking. Until then it's treated as not filed.
What is the fee for filing an ITR late?
Up to ₹5,000, or ₹1,000 if your total income is up to ₹5 lakh. Filing late also means you can't carry forward most losses to later years.
